Evacuate Fadi and Ali Action Alert
Written by The PDM Team
Fadi Al-Whidi, a 25-year old Al-Jazeera cameraman, who has risked his life for the last year to document “Israel’s” atrocities across Gaza was targeted and shot in the neck by the Zionist occupation on October 9th, 2024. Images of Fadi stunned the world as they were reminiscent of the targeting of Shireen Abu-Akleh, two years earlier, laying face down while his colleagues and friends shouted his name in desperation hoping for a response.
A week later, Fadi fell into a coma and remains in coma today, requiring to be evacuated from North Gaza to receive life-saving medical treatment. The Zionist occupation continues to deny his evacuation while he fights for his life. We demand action #SaveFadiAlWhidi.
Ali Al-Attar, another 27-year old Al-Jazeera cameraman, was injured in a Zionist airstrike in Deir Al Balah on October 8th, 2024. Like Fadi, Ali requires evacuation for critical medical attention to save his life. Ali and Fadi are amongst many journalists who have worked tirelessly to bring the truth to light, and who have been deliberately targeted by the Zionist occupation in an attempt to commit their crimes in Gaza freely. World leaders acknowledge that journalists are not targets, yet this reality is not applied to Palestinian journalists. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated on World Press Freedom Day (May 3, 2024) that:
“Despite their crucial role, journalists around the world are increasingly targeted by hate, violence, and censorship – from conflict zones to authoritarian regimes. Canada will always stand up for journalists in the defence of media freedom and against misinformation and disinformation. Journalists must be able to do their jobs – free from threat or intimidation.
Similarly, US President Joe Biden stated: “On World Press Freedom Day, the United States calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all journalists who have been put behind bars for simply doing their jobs. And we call for the protection of journalists everywhere, including during military operations. My Administration will continue to support free and independent media worldwide.”
Hold your politicians accountable and demand the evacuation of these young men immediately. Click the link below for templates to send to your local representatives, media outlets and governments and together, let’s ensure that our brave journalists receive the medical treatment they need.
UPDATE (November 15th): Fadi's family has announced that they have begun a hunger strike as of yesterday to draw attention to his critical condition. Heartbreakingly, Fadi's mother, who is battling cancer, is also participating in the hunger strike to amplify the call for his urgent medical evacuation. Today, all journalists in Gaza are making a significant push to support this cause.
