End the Zionist Genocide in Gaza!
We, the Palestine Diaspora Movement (PDM), call upon all supporters of the Palestinian struggle to urgently mobilize and put increased pressure on governments for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza following the UN resolution for a temporary Ramadan ceasefire.
On Monday 25 March 2024, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) passed a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire for Ramadan, aiming to pave the way for what it calls a “lasting sustainable peace.” It calls for the unconditional release of all hostages and the removal of barriers to humanitarian assistance. Despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's threats, the resolution passed by a vote of 14 to 1, with the US abstaining. This decision coincides with the upcoming visits of two separate Israeli delegations to Washington.
We, of course, welcome the stopping of violence against Palestinian people, however, this resolution is not enough. However, we reiterate that we do not acknowledge institutions preserving colonialism and Western hegemony - like the UN, ICJ and ICC - because Palestinians will always suffer the consequences of these imperialist organizations.
The wording of the resolution is flimsy and incredibly weak. It does not demand an end to the genocide, to cease the bombing of Gaza, to end the siege, or to cease the ground invasion of Rafah. It does not call for the release of Palestinian hostages being held in ‘Israeli’ prisons, nor the free flow of medicines, food, clean water, electricity, or other essential items for rebuilding Gaza directly to the Palestinian people.
It also remains unclear how this will be implemented as the UNSC must deploy “peacekeeping forces” to enforce the resolution. We are on day 15 of Ramadan now, which leaves roughly 14-15 days of ‘ceasefire.’ According to this resolution, Zionist Israel is free to carry out the genocide with renewed anger after Ramadan, not factoring in Eid which for Muslims, the religion of the majority of Palestinians, is supposed to be an occasion of joy spent with family.
We remember what happened during the last temporary ceasefire, the IOF continued to attack Palestinians in the Gaza strip and ramped up aggression on Palestinians in the occupied territories. It is incredibly cruel to call for a pause into the extermination of the Palestinian people.
This is why we urgently call on our people in the diaspora and our joint struggle supporters, along with pro-Palestinian organizations, collectives, and coalitions to mobilize in support of the Palestinian cause. Flood the streets and be loud in your support for Palestine. Apply pressure on your elected representatives and institutions to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, to stop arming the IOF and sanction ‘Israel.’ Amplify Palestinian voices and journalists in Gaza, share the stories of Palestinian martyrs, and do not let them just become another number.
You can find a comprehensive list of actions you can take now in our Global Strike Guide. Take part in the #FeedNorthGaza campaign to remind the world that north Gaza is still alive and in need of our help.
Never forget that settler colonies cannot be held accountable in legal arenas they have created, true liberation of Palestine will be achieved through Palestinian resistance.
We will continue to amplify the call of the Palestinian people in Gaza! By amplifying their demands: an immediate ceasefire, lift the siege, end the occupation, and free Palestine!
Until then, in solidarity,
Palestine Diaspora Movement
