Martyrdom In Palestine and Islam
What does martyrdom mean in Islam? In this post, we explore the true meaning of "shaheed"—a witness to faith and justice, and one who sacrifices selflessly for what they love. Too often, Western media and liberal narratives distort this sacred concept, equating it with violence or terror. But for Muslims and Palestinians alike, martyrdom is a beautiful, selfless act—one of the highest honors and a light that transcends from earth to the heavens.
From doctors refusing to abandon their patients in bombed hospitals to rescue workers searching tirelessly beneath the rubble, the martyrs of Gaza illuminate the depth of human courage and steadfastness. These are their stories. These are their sacrifices.
Reject Normalization
Normalization, in the context of Palestine, refers to the process by which relationships, activities, and agreements are established with the Zionist settler-colonial state of Israel without addressing its occupation, oppression, and violations of Palestinian rights. This term includes normalization via diplomatic agreements, economic partnerships, cultural exchanges, and even rhetorical frameworks that equate the experiences of the occupier with the occupied.
Betrayal in Jenin
The Palestinian Authority (PA), under the leadership of Mahmoud Abbas, operates as a dictatorship that functions to uphold the Zionist settler-colonial system, oppressing Palestinians rather than protecting their liberation. This betrayal of the Palestinian struggle is evident in its recent actions in Jenin, where the PA's violent crackdown against resistance groups has underscored its role as a subcontractor for Israeli interests.
The First Palestinian Intifada
In the ten years leading up to the First Intifada, or First “Uprising,” the Zionist far-right Likud party was gaining power in the settler colony of “Israel.”
These extremists aggressively advanced indigenous land theft and the creation of illegal settlements on Palestinian land. After decades of violent colonization, the sentiment of resistance against the fascist occupiers gained traction amongst the Palestinian people.
October 7th and Beyond
On October 7th, Hamas's Operation Al-Aqsa Flood was initiated with the dual purpose of liberating Palestinians who are unjustly imprisoned by the “Israeli” Zionist regime and amplifying the Palestinian cause on a global stage.
America, Wake up!
America is Funding the Genocide in Gaza
The US is directly funding the genocide in Gaza by sending monetary aid and missile defenses to the Israeli occupation. The financial transfers come from US taxpayer funds, around $3.3 billion, which the US provides to ‘Israel’ every year. These are provided as grants under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program, funds that ‘Israel’ must use to purchase US military equipment and services. Since October 7, the US has approved more than 100 separate military sales to fund the violence carried out by the IOF. However, only 2 approved foreign military sales to ‘Israel’ have been made public: $106 million worth of tank ammunition and $147.5 million of components needed to make 155 mm shells.
The 100 other smaller transactions, known as Foreign Military Sales (FMS), are weapons transfers which were processed without any public record because each fell under a specific dollar amount. Put simply, only packages of a certain value need Congressional oversight, meaning “bundled packages” below that value are being slipped through regularly.
‘Israel’ is also experimenting with new weapons during the ongoing occupation on Gaza. $500 million a year is slated for Israeli and US-Israeli missile defense programs, where the two countries collaborate on the research, development, and production of these systems used by the Israeli occupation, including the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow II. Over the years, the Israeli occupation forces have tested rubber bullets, AI-powered robotic guns and various forms of crowd dispersal solutions, which have inflicted severe injuries on Palestinians. This exploitation of technology has spurred the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) to advocate for the boycott of Intel, Google and Elbit Systems citing their complicity in supporting the settler colony of Israel.
Zionist Aggression of Al Aqsa
The Al-Aqsa Compound in Jerusalem, the third holiest site in Islam, is a focal point of Palestinian identity and resistance. It comprises the Dome of the Rock, where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ascended to heaven; the Qibli Mosque, the main place of prayer; and the Al-Buraq Wall, where the Prophet tethered his steed. However, under Zionist occupation, Palestinians face severe access restrictions and the threat of the mosque's foundation being undermined for the construction of a new Jewish temple. Al-Aqsa's preservation is vital for Palestinian identity and resistance against the forces of colonization and erasure.
